A child among the followers of sectarian attackers loyal to the transitional de facto terrorist authority was observed carrying a sword taller than himself and participating in an attack against unarmed Alawite civilians.

This conduct constitutes a serious violation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, including:
• Protection of children from involvement in hostilities and armed violence.
• The right to physical and psychological safety.
• Exploitation and coercion on religious and sectarian grounds.

This incident reflects the use of children in systematic sectarian violence, within a context of impunity and complete lack of protection for the civilian population.
