We were able to find the personal Facebook page of Mr. Hussein al-Sharaa, the father of Ahmad al-Sharaa, better known as al-Julani. In one of his posts, he raised the question of why there is no constitutional declaration and how things can’t work without it.

It seems that Mr. Hussein, who holds nationalist views, has high hopes for his son. His son left home both physically and politically in his twenties, joining the terrorist group #al_Qaeda in #Iraq. Using the bodies of Iraqis, he contributed to building a “declaration” for the #caliphate, carried out through suicide bombings and car bomb attacks that led to the deaths of many innocent civilians.

What Mr. Hussein seems to miss is that the kind of unity he once envisioned between #Syria and #Egypt in his youth is very different from his son’s goals. #alJulani and co. are pursuing a global vision of unity among jihadist Islamists, aiming to bring them together from around the world. This includes granting them citizenship and military roles. It’s clear that Mr. Hussein may not fully understand this vision. Moreover, the idea of unity that Mr. Hussein mentioned in another post, calling for “Syria to belong to all Syrians without discrimination,” stands in stark contrast to al-Julani’s approach. Al-Julani doesn’t even support unity among Syria’s minorities, let alone their participation in political decisions. In fact, he’s authorized his fighters to commit acts of terrorism against these groups, including kidnapping, killing, forced displacement, and humiliation, especially in #Homs and #Hama. His goal is to alter the demographic makeup of these areas. He has even blocked journalists from entering areas where massacres are taking place against #Alawites in Homs and its outskirts, as reported by The Economist in a recent interview.

Mr. Hussein needs to accept that his son isn’t following the same path of #Nasserism or Arab unity that he once believed in. Instead, his son has charted his own course, one that trains suicide bombers to impose Islamic law through violence. This is evident in the European documentary The Daqma (The Button), which looks at the al-Nusra Front (now known as Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham #HTS), led by Ahmad al-Sharaa A.K.A. al-Julani. This group has been instrumental in training suicide bombers to carry out deadly attacks. The documentray is directed by @PaulRefsdal, and has been deliberately avoided by Arab channels.

Additionally, the UN Security Council’s decision to designate the al-Nusra Front (now Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham #HTS) as a terrorist organization mentions several of the group’s operations.

In the documentary The Daqma, the name Sheikh Abdullah al-Muhaysini comes up, as he is said to have been the one who communicated details to a suicide bomber regarding a 15-ton truck bombing. It’s also reported that Abdullah al-Muhaysini (@dr_abdullah44), a #Saudi Salafi preacher, holds the position of Sharia judge in Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham and travels freely within Syria.
