Continued protests by teachers in Tartous, Latakia, and Daraa are demanding the cancellation of dismissal decisions, the regularization of contracts, and the payment of salaries.

Angry protest by teachers in Tartous.

Teachers from Tartous Governorate held a protest demanding the cancellation of the “unjust” decisions against them, including the confirmation of their contracts, the payment of their salaries, and the reinstatement of those who had been dismissed.

In Latakia, a similar protest was held a few days ago, with the same demands, amid complete disregard from the interim government for the teachers' demands. As for Daraa, a protest was held today by teachers demanding that contracts be made permanent and that their salaries not be delayed.

The reality in Syria points to the sectarian and selective dismissals that have taken place against teachers in the Syrian coast, Homs, and Hama for several months. At that time, the teachers held protests demanding their reinstatement, but received no response, leaving hundreds of families without salaries and in abject poverty.

The details of the deliberate dismissals, which had been ongoing for several months, were compiled in a report by Al-Haqiqa Al-Souriya, according to informed local sources who spoke to the publication. The dismissals included a number of university graduates, who were replaced by individuals with lower educational qualifications. Despite the Ministry's claim of a surplus of teachers, subsequent competitions exposed the falsity of these claims and confirmed the findings of Al-Haqiqa Al-Souriya's report.
